What is it about this car that so many are borderline obsessed with?  Is it the DeLorean itself?  Or the sense of awe we felt when we saw the movies that first time?  Whatever it is, Sean and I aren’t the only ones who have had this overwhelming feeling to spend a fortune and dedicate months and years of valuable time to this project, all the while never regretting it for a moment...

Here are some of those that did it before us and some that are currently in progress...

This area is still under construction.  Content will be updated frequently.

  1.   ”TIME CAR”

Built by Oliver and Terry Holler after falling in love with the films.  These guys are among the first generation of builders and gave me the inspiration that this dream was even possible...  by the way... they’re also AWESOME!

  1.   MARK SHIELDS

Originally built by model maker Doug Vaters, Mark bought the car and has been replacing and upgrading different bits and pieces over the years as he finds parts he likes better, including a zero-mile high performance engine from DMC.  Mark’s car was one of the first as well as the model for the famous BTTF T-shirt that used a reverse image of the photo to the right.  Check out Mark’s website to see what he’s up to next... aside from just having a great time living his dream.

  1.   GARY WEAVER II

If you’re even on this site then you already know who he is and what he’s accomplished.  Gary is in the process of completing his THIRD time machine conversion, but has contributed to almost all the conversions out there, including ours.  (These pics are of his FIRST car... incredible!)

  1.   RYDER DAVIS

Ryder built his car @ night while juggling his  day job and having a real life, all the while making the necessary mechanical repairs as they ALWAYS seem to pop up.  I’m constantly impressed with Ryder’s car and I think he did an outstanding job...  check it out!

  1.   “88-MPH”

When I first saw Monte’s car... I was so floored I just couldn’t believe it.  Someone was giving Gary a run for his money.  As it turns out, Monte had started his conversion far earlier than even Gary, and his level of accuracy showed it.  I still look at this car and wonder how he did some of this stuff.  It’s so dead on, I’m certain he traveled through time to get some of these parts... Monte recently sold his car and has left BTTF game altogether but not without giving us all something to work toward.

  1.   “DOC’S TIME MACHINE”

Dave Jason entered the time machine game with the intention of making his conversion “non-Invasive” - meaning without drilling holes or doing irreparable damage to the original condition DeLorean.  It wasn’t long before he committed to breaking glass and drilling holes in that all too familiar quest for accuracy.  Although some liberties were taken, overall it turned out to be an outstanding vehicle and I think he REALLY did a great job.  Dave, you will be missed.  Thanks for the memories.

  1.   “BTTF II Car”

Built by Danny Botkin @ DeLorean Motor Company, CA and completed in March 2007 the “BTTF II Car” is owned by Paul Nigh and Houston Courtney.  Paul calls it the “OFFICIAL Back to the Future II Replicar.”  Nigh, Courtney and their car ran the FIREBALL RUN in 2008 and have been featured in many print magazines and video shoots.

  1.   “BACK TO D 80’S”

Scott Dorlaque’s car was totally impressive, to say the least.  He was also the first one that posted such great close-up photos showing many of the little details.  Scott not only raised the bar with his conversion, he raised the bar when it came to selling it for what was, at that point, a record breaking amount for a DeLorean BTTF replica conversion.  Sadly Scott has left the hobby, but his contributions have not gone forgotten.

  1.   “BTTF TIME MACHINE”

Built by Gary Weaver II (his SECOND car) this car was privately commissioned.  The owner has been a BTTF fan for many years and one day decided to make owning the time machine a reality.  One phone call to Gary Weaver II and several years later, he took delivery of this beauty and she truly is something special.  Check out his site and his wonderful photo spread of the car @ the Gamble House in Pasadena. (Doc’s 1955 mansion.)

  1.   “DELOREAN TIME MACHINE”

Charles Kline Jr. has been a member of the community for a long while and has done lots and lots of research to begin his build.  It’s not quite done yet, but it’s coming along very well and he’s already out and about showcasing major events.

  1.   MIKE CARREY

Mike Carrey is in the middle of his build but it’s coming out wonderfully...  Mike’s also in the middle of several parts runs that are a great help to ALL of us time machine replicators.  Thanks for everything Mike!  Keep it up! :)

  1.   “TIME MACHINE FOR HIRE”

Ken Kapalowski from the Ontario DeLorean Owner’s Club owns not one, but TWO DeLoreans.  He’s currently starting on his time machine from scratch for a SECOND time... this time really going for accuracy.  It’s looking terrific so far and those vents are spot on my friend.  Keep  up the great work!!!

  1.   TIME MACHINE OPTION”

Bob Brandys is truly an innovator.  Not only was he one of the first to take on this project, he broke all the rules by slamming a V8 into his time machine, clear coating the stainless steel and engineered some full size windows.  After enjoying that for a bit he got bored and converted the entire thing to electric power.  His car was one of the firsts and still stands up today.

  1.   ”B IN TIME”

Danny Botkin has had more DeLorean experience than all the other builders put together.  In addition to building several time machines, for himself and clients, he also runs and operates DeLorean Motor Company, CA in Garden Grove, California.  Danny’s first time machine was finished back in 2001 and sold a few years ago.  He’s currently working on his second and it’s coming along nicely.  GET TO WORK BUDDY!!!
