Okay, so I’m mixing genres a bit here, but... One day, driving around Los Angeles, I found myself in the neighborhood where they filmed “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and couldn’t resist this bizarre, yet awesome photo opportunity.
That’s Eric Mathers from STARZ/Encore’s “Into the Scene” getting into the DeLorean in front of the big globe @ UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD.
A scenic overlook having absolutely nothing to do with Back to the Future.
Twin Pines Mall... actually Puente Hills Mall in the City of Industry, CA (the white van is parked in the exact spot as Doc’s truck)
While doing a shoot for the STARZ/Encore cable channels, they had us go to a lot of the original filming locations to shoot their pre-written content. As always, we got lots of interesting looks. It’s also quite satisfying that UNIVERSAL STUDIOS has taken to renting our car for their BTTF related shoots and events. It’s extremely sad that the original car is in such disrepair, but it’s exciting for us to fill in for it, nonetheless.
Actual filming location of Hilldale. The McFly neighborhood in 2015
Saddling up next to Herbie and Horace (evil herbie) @ the “Cruisin’ for a Cure” car show in Orange County California. Starcarcentral.com and DMC CA unite for a good cause.
A very nice Flickr user saw the time machine parked across the street from their place of business and posted these great photos. We were there because, as you can see in the background, Sean’s new Ecto (yes, we’re building a second one) is finishing a major mechanical and cosmetic restoration. It’s just about done and these guys will be soon be running side by side @ all the Star Car events.
The next couple have absolutely NOTHING to do with Back to the Future, but they are incredibly large and historic sets. After visiting ancient Rome and Spartacus Square, we check-in @ the original Bates Motel where Norman, Mother and the Psycho house are just up the stairs.
The actual (recently refurbished) “Lyon Estates” signs from the McFly family’s 1985 neighborhood.
The actual clock tower eve as it sits today. It’s been removed from the clock tower structure while CBS’s “Ghost Whisperer” occupies Courthouse Square. (Contrary to many reports, the courthouse was, indeed, spared from the devastating backlot fires of June, 2008)
Some random pics from a photo shoot on the backlot @ UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD. The western photos were taken on “Denver Street” which, in addition to over one hundred movies, was the location for the Kirk Cameron hosted special “Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy”
“Sisters reunited” - Our OFFTO55 replica on the left with the original “A” car from the film on the right. This is the last surviving DeLorean from all the original films. (You might notice Biff’s Ford in the background or one of the Mercedes ML320’s from “THE LOST WORLD: Jurassic Park.” These cars are currently on display on the backlot tram tour @ Universal Studios Hollywood.
(This photo was taken the day I replaced the (long missing) DMC grill emblem with one generously donated by Danny Botkin and DeLorean Motor Company, CA.)
From the endoskeleton of conduit and cable to the rubber hoses and electrical capacitors, the DeLorean Time Machine’s silhouette is unmistakable. The hard-to-find military surplus and custom made parts along with the more recognizable “Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor” and huge nuclear vents on the back culminate into this incredibly recognizable star car.
Someone once told me, “The Devil is in the details” ... There has never been a case where this is more true... There are so many details in the DeLorean Time Machine it’s difficult to tell if it’s just a mess of wires or a scientific weather experiment. Here are some photos while we were out and about...
